Gardens in the Movies

The stately homes on this tree-lined street in South Pasadena area are regularly used by filmmakers to represent numerous American cities."National Treasure" was filmed in this Colonial Revival home several years ago and the new owners wanted to make sure that the garden upgrades would be pleasing both to them, and the movie scouts.

The owners loved the symmetrical appearance of the house and garden and wanted to maintain an East Coast feel in the new design. Careful trimming of overgrown trees and hedges opened up views and brought sunlight onto the lawn. Low boxwood hedges and planting borders now flank the brick walkway, providing flowers for year-round seasonal color. The dilapidated, unattractive railing was replaced with a historically appropriate design, and recessed lights now illuminate the brick steps.

As work continues on other areas of the property, this garden is definitely ready for its close-up!
